  • You can get a Vaal Orb by selling 7 Vaal skill gems along with 1 sacrifice fragment to an NPC. This recipe is probably not worth the effort, rather buy your Vaal Orbs from other players.
  • Vaal orbs are quite valuable and mostly useful in the end game.
  • Corrupting an item with a Vaal Orb makes it so that you cannot use any other currency items on it anymore. For example, you cannot easily change the sockets. You can possibly still change it on a crafting bench.
  • There are many possible outcomes for corrupting an item. One of the outcomes (25% chance) is always that nothing happens, the item just becomes corrupted. For equipment, there is a chance to add a new implicit modifier (25% chance), which can be powerful. There is also a chance to get white sockets on your item (25% chance) - white sockets can hold gems of any color.
  • There is also a chance of "bricking" your item - converting it to a random rare item (25% chance).
  • Since you can basically destroy your item with this, and it cannot be changed after corrupting, better make sure not to use Vaal Orbs on anything important or that you don't have a replacement for.
  • Using Vaal Orbs on endgame maps can increase their rewards - you can change the map into one with 8 mods (25% chance) or keep the current mods, but make it unidentified (25% chance) both of which increase the quantity of items found in the map. This might sometimes be worth doing with high level (red) maps.
  • In conclusion better keep your Vaal Orbs for the endgame, when you know what you are doing, or just sell them to other players.
